Here at Greenberg’s we’re proud to be one of the most recognized and respected names in the Midwest for fine jewelry. Our employees truly care about your special moments, an attitude that is instilled from the top down. Amy is a descendent of our founder Jacob Greenberg, she is a company owner and designs her own line of jewelry sold exclusively at Greenberg’s. We sat down with Amy to learn more about her childhood memories of the jewelry business, where her jewelry inspiration comes from, and her personal life.
- What is your best childhood memory in the jewelry store?
- My sister and I would help out at the store at Christmas time. We stuck labels on the Greenberg’s catalog and sorted them by zip code. We would get paid a penny a piece for all our hard work.
- Did you ever get to play dress up with the jewelry pieces?
- I wouldn’t get to try on pieces from the store, but my mom let me try on all her jewelry. This definitely ignited my passion for jewelry.
- What lessons do you remember learning as a child that still impact you to this day?
- The best lesson I learned was how to be a hard worker. I grew up watching my parents work so hard and that installed my work ethic.
- Why did you choose to go into the jewelry business?
- I went into the jewelry business because the timing was right, and I was able to contribute a lot to the company. 30 years ago, we were given a great opportunity to expand 3 stores to 8. Plus working with my parents was amazing.
- When did you start to take a larger role in the company?
- Before I joined the company, I was a corporate banker with 3 year experience in Chicago. I decided to move back to Sioux City and join the company because we were growing, and I immediately started working with my dad in merchandising.
- Where do you get inspiration for your jewelry designs?
- I am a very visual person, and I gather inspiration from many things. It could be an architectural building, fashion magazines, or anything that catches my eye.
- What do you do when you’re designing a piece of jewelry?
- When I’m designing a new piece of jewelry, I work with manufacturers in New York and California. The best place for me to brainstorm is in my office in Sioux City.
- What do you do if you have design block when designing a piece of jewelry?
- Thankfully, I don’t get design block very often. When it does happen, I go for a walk in nature and relax so I can clear my mind.
- Describe your family in three words.
- Smart, innovative, and philanthropic
- What hobbies do you have?
- I love traveling, drinking wine, working out, and watching sunsets
- What does a perfect day look like to you?
- My perfect day would include: Waking up at 8:30, working out, going into work at 10:30, getting a massage after working, and finally enjoying a glass of wine while I watch the sunset with my three dogs.
- Describe your style.
- My style is trendy, but classic and always high quality.
