Congratulations, you’ve just got engaged! The moment you’ve been waiting for, the one you thought would be coming, is now here and it’s surreal. You have a beautiful ring on your finger and you are going to become someone’s spouse. It’s all happening and it’s happening fast. You probably have a ton of questions racing through your mind now: who do you call, what’s the next step, when should we get married? Take a breath. Relax. There’s plenty of time to get everything done. The key is to get organized.
Here’s a quick checklist to help you get started.
Call Your Relatives. Please don’t let your parents find out you’re engaged through social media (unless you want them to bring it up for the next 20 years). Call your parents, siblings and close friends and personally tell them the exciting news. Most importantly, don’t forget to send them pictures of your amazing ring!
Get Your Ring Sized. Don’t take the chance of losing a new ring that’s loose on your finger. Greenberg’s has five in-house Master Jewelers with more than 50 years of combined experience that can resize it. You can take your ring to any Greenberg’s location to have it perfectly sized for your finger.
Get A Manicure. Chipped nails, don’t care? Probably not. You are going to show off your new bling nonstop for at least the next couple weeks; keep those nails on-point. Have a professional give you a fabulous look that will complement your ring, or at the very least, make sure your nails are clean and shaped.
Post A Selfie. After you’ve told those closest to you the big news, let the world know. Make your engagement Facebook- and Instagram-official and post a selfie of you, your fiancé and your ring, or just your ring. Don’t forget to tag Greenberg’s Jewelers in the photo. We love to show off your new Greenberg’s ring as much as you do!
Get Your Ring Insured. Trust us, do this now, rather than later, because it’s easy to forget about or push aside with all the other planning. Add your ring to your homeowner or renter’s insurance. Greenberg’s can help with the appraisal too. Don’t forget, even if your ring does not need to be sized, it’s always a good idea to meet your Jewelry professional. Keeping your ring warranty up to date, and learning best care practices for your new shiny bling are super important!
Budget For Bands. Select your wedding bands early, even if the wedding is years away. It is easier to add this expense into your budget now, rather than later. You don’t want the wedding band of your dreams to take a backseat to other wedding expenses. Greenberg’s has a beautiful selection of bands to help you find that perfect wedding band to match your ring.
Set a Date - Even If It's Not the Date. Think about a date, even if you’re not quite sure yet. The best wedding dates and venues get booked far in advance so it’s a good idea to pin down a time, even if you plan on waiting a couple of years. Talk with your families to make sure your proposed date steers clear of any conflicts. You don’t want to make guests choose between attending your wedding or grandma’s 80th birthday.
Daydream (a Lot). Pinterest, bridal magazines and blogs (like this one) can all give great ideas for how your wedding dreams can come to fruition. Create a Pinterest board and/or Google Doc to keep everything together. Digital folders make finding saved photos and venue screenshots a snap. You can also easily share your ideas with your fiancé, mom, friends and wedding planner.
Take A Breath. Don’t get overwhelmed with planning, it takes all the fun out of being engaged! Celebrate this new stage of your life and plan a night out, just you and your fiancé. Enjoy being together and let the rest go for an evening.
